A 32-year-old islamic teacher identified as Mallam Ibrahim Salley has been smoked out of his hiding place by the police for allegedly abusing children sexually. He was arrested by the police at his hideout at Asensu Bar in Ashaiman, away from the Valco Flats location where he lived. A neighbour had expressed concern about the activities of the Mallam (or teacher) but he was asked to provide evidence by the persons to whom he complained. When he finally came out with a pictorial evidence of the man, unclad, as one of the pupils was sucking his man-hood, the picture spread quickly in the neighbourhood.

There was no indication this evening that the former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasir El-Rufai, who voluntarily turned himself in at the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja this morning, would be released to go home. The SSS had declared El Rufai, the Interim Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wanted over a comment attributed to him that the 2015 election could turn violent if rigged and many people left dead. As of 7.20pm Nigerian time on Monday, the former Minister was still being detained by operatives of the SSS. Journalists who were anxiously keeping vigil for the outcome of the interrogation left for home in disappointment. There are indications that the service may file charges against El Rufai, but as of the time of this report there was no official statement in respect of the detention.

According to AFP: A Salvadorean nun who said she had no idea she was pregnant gave birth in Italy this week after she felt stomach cramps in her convent and was rushed to hospital, Italian media reported on Friday. Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has approved a bill banning gay marriage and same-sex partnerships that sparked international condemnation, his spokesman said on Monday. "I can confirm that the president has signed the bill into law," Goodluck Jonathan's spokesman Reuben Abati told AFP, without specifying a date but adding that it happened earlier this month. The Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters will spend the sum of N181.3m on uniforms and other garments in 2014, according to the budget estimates submitted to the National Assembly by Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. A copy of the proposed budget of the headquarters of the justice ministry, which was obtained by our correspondent, revealed that the sum of N181, 391,000 was allocated for "uniforms and other clothing" in 2014. The sum is part of the total N4.7bn allocated to the Federal Ministry of Justice Headquarters in the 2014 budget proposal. However, the nature of the "uniforms and other clothing" was not disclosed. The ministry is to spend the sum of N1.3bn on legal services in the New Year, while N1.4bn is allocated for consulting and professional services.
